Myopia Management

We’re here to help answer all your questions about Myopia!

Hassocks Eyecare Centre has fully embraced all myopia management options for youngsters starting with orthokeratology lenses, then MiSight daily disposables and offering the UK first spectacle myopia retarding lenses from Hoya back in 2021.

It was therefore very heartening to read in a recent article published on the Myopia Profile website that we are providing products and aftercare services in line with our UK and Ireland peers.

In particular the recommendation to measure the axial length (actual eyeball length) for children who are in myopia control contact lenses or glasses. We are now measuring axial length both for children in myopia control and those who we think are at risk of becoming myopic.

BOOK AN EYE TEST

We have had some great success stories so far amongst the children we see and have carefully plotted their predicted change over time without myopia control intervention and with and they are all getting benefits.

Myopia increases the risk of a number of eye health conditions throughout life and so every dioptre reduction in power is a positive for that patient for life.

For a prediction of how short-sighted your child may become please use the Myopia calculator on the Brian Holden Vision Care Institute site Myopia Calculator | BHVI.

Orthokeratology is a fantastic option for myopia management, but also for people who do not want to wear contact lenses or glasses during the daytime. They are ideal for active kids (or adults!) because you wear them throughout the night, then remove them when you wake up. If you’re worried about your child losing or breaking expensive glasses, this is a great option to reduce concerns whilst letting your child live their life to the fullest.

LEARN ABOUT ORTHOKERATOLOGY

MiSight Contact Lenses are soft, daily disposable lenses that are used to correct near-sightedness, and have been shown in clinical studies to slow the progression of myopia in children who started treatment between 8-12 years old. You can insert a new pair of daily lenses each morning, wear them throughout the day, and take them out at the end of the day (and bring discarded lenses and packaging to us to recycle!).

LEARN ABOUT MISIGHT CONTACT LENSES

Specialist spectacle lenses are made using patented technology to help slow myopia progression. As an independent optician, we have many options for these but have seen for ourselves the effectiveness of Hoya’s MiYOSMART lenses.
