Dispensing Opticians

Why choose a Dispensing Optician?

Our Dispensing Team are all Qualified Dispensing Opticians, which makes us a bit different to the average high street optician

Most people haven’t heard of a Dispensing Optician before!

High street Opticians will typically employ Optical Assistants on their shop floor to place your order for new spectacles, under supervision of one or two Dispensing Opticians. We’re quite unique in that all of our Dispensing Team are fully Qualified Dispensing Opticians (FBDO), meaning they have undergone extensive Ophthalmic Lens and Frame training, and are registered with the General Optical Council (GOC).

Only registered Dispensing Opticians are allowed to dispense spectacles to children and people with sight impairment, so please call us on 01273 843946 for advice if you’d like to talk to any of our Dispensing Opticians about what we can do to help.

What does a Dispensing Optician do?

After an eye test, it’s common to feel overwhelmed, and when confronted with a vast array of frame styles, it’s difficult to know where to begin. That’s where our team can help; by analysing your prescription, lens history and facial characteristics, we can give you a head start when deciding what style of frame you’d like. Of course frame styling also incorporates fashion and style advice, so the team have had training from Jessica, our Colour Me Beautiful consultant, to be able to give you the best advice- as well as qualifications from the Federation of British Dispensing Opticians (FBDO).

We take a lot of pride in our frame selection, featuring eyewear from across the globe with unique details and high quality materials, whilst also considering the environmental impact of individual eyewear brands when we choose which ranges to stock.

We’ll be able to help you find your perfect style, whether you’re looking to make a statement through a vibrant, funky frame like those from Etnia Barcelona, looking for supreme comfort and lightness such as the rimless selection from Silhouette, or the Danish architectural style of ProDesign.

Stocking frames from around the world means that we have to keep an eye on our carbon footprint- we stock environmentally friendly brands such as Bird Eyewear, Cocoa Mint and Jensen, and are constantly assessing how we can improve our own eco credentials. We recycle frames and contact lenses in store, so be sure when you next clear out your cupboards to save them from landfill and bring them to us instead.

Why have your colours analysed?

The colours you choose to wear can make a big difference to the way you look and feel. You’ll already know that some colours suit you more than others, and this is down to a combination of factors including skin tone, eye colour, hair colour and personality.

Adapting the colours you wear to suit your unique combination of these factors can give you a wonderfully refreshing result and leave you feeling energised and looking healthier and younger.

If you haven’t ‘had your colours done’ for more than 5 years, now is a great time to update your look and plan your wardrobe for the seasons ahead. We can work with your existing clothes and suggest clever ways to update your wardrobe for minimal cost.

Colour Me Beautiful

State of the Art Technology

Being an Independent Optician, we are lucky enough to be able to source lenses from a large number of well-known lens companies from across the world, as well as here in the UK.

This means that we’ll find the perfect lens for you, no matter whether you’re looking for your first reading or driving glasses, a seasoned varifocal wearer, or have decided to take the plunge and try them for the first time. We take into consideration your prescription, lifestyle, frame choice and previous lens experiences to help determine which design of varifocal would suit you best.

We also have the exceptional Seiko E-Column device in store, which enables us to take precise and in-depth measurements whilst you are standing up- something that the not-so-tall of the Dispensing Opticians really appreciate! This means that we can really delve into how each lens might work for you in different day-to-day scenarios, enabling us to personalise measurements and give you the best performing lenses possible.

Our Seiko Vision Xperience iPad app also gives us useful tools to help you choose the right lens and frames, from displaying multiple pictures on the screen at once, to showing us how different lens designs and materials will work with your prescription.
